Visual Timeline for LGBTQ+ Movement

Within the heart of Greenwich Village stands the Stonewall Inn at 51 Christopher Street—the first LGBTQ+ national monument in the National Park Service. On a summer night in 1969, a routine police raid at this bar turned into an uprising that changed the world. The visitor center transforms the original bar complex into an powerful experience that captures the chaotic, joyful, and defiant energy of the rebellion, anchoring the fight for equality to the very sidewalk where it began.

The design centers on sensory details of that night. A vintage 1967 jukebox—the exact model that played during the riots—restored and curated by DJ Honey Dijon, connects dance floor music to the spirit of resistance. A vibrant timeline traces the movement's evolution from Greenwich Village enclave to the global fight for marriage equality. The exhibition pulses with protest and pride, merging past and present to inspire a new generation carrying forward the enduring fight for LGBTQ+ rights and dignity.
